Fair Trade Coffee
The Social Ministry Committee sells Fair Trade coffee, tea and cocoa at the monthly Welcome Time fellowship (first Sunday of each month). All of the money spent on these beverages gets sent to the producers of these products.
The purpose of Fair Trade is to promote healthier working conditions and greater economic benefits for producers (the farmers and laborers). In many parts of the world there are no restrictions or labor standards, and so buyers and distributors can sell cheap coffee with cheap labor costs and high profits to themselves. Fair Trade helps to ensure a better quality product while ensuring that the producers of the product, the farmers and laborers, are fairly compensated for their labor rather than seeing the lion’s share go to the middleman.
